Ways to Get Your Movies Online

I’ve been saying it for a long time, but if the film industry truly wants to quash piracy, the best thing they can do is give the people what they want – affordable films that can be streamed or downloaded easily and quickly.

Last week, it was announced that a new service, Orange Thursdays, would allow an iTunes film from Orange every week for people who were on the Orange network. It’s just one more example of how the market is changing and companies are using the power of the web to give film fans some great options. With that in mind, here are five great ways you can join in the movie fun.

The LoveFilm Player

We’re all familiar with the existing LoveFilm service, you pay a monthly fee, you get discs in the post, watch them and send them back. However, with an all-new online player in its arsenal, LoveFilm has also become the way to stream movies online. In addition to having thousands of titles available to users whenever they want it, the service is compatible with PlayStation 3, as well as certain Sony Blu-ray players and web-enabled TVs.

BT Vision

Although there are competing services available from the likes of Virgin Media and Sky, the BT Vision service is a very affordable way to have a library of films at your disposal any time you want them. Of course, you have to be a BT Broadband customer to enjoy it, but for a relatively small monthly fee, there are inclusive and pay-per-view options to choose from.

Apple TV

In 2010, many thought Apple TV was dying and some even said it seemed unlikely the Californian super company would do anything to revive it with so many other alternatives out there. However, they instead brought out a more compact set top box with fantastic features, HD capabilities and a library of rentals to rival its fiercest competitors – as well as a new, lower price tag.

The iTunes store

With the free movies announcement from Orange, the iTunes store looks even more of an attractive option for people who want to watch movies on their iPhone mobile phone, computer or laptop. Of course, there are various ways you can stream these to your TV now too and with weekly special offers on certain titles, it’s definitely an option worth investigating.

Qriocity from Sony

Like the LoveFilm Player, Qriocity is a relatively new streaming video service that is available on the PlayStation 3, as well as certain models of Sony Blu-ray player and internet-enabled televisions. In addition to a great selection of movies, all available to rent at pretty reasonable prices, the service has plenty of music and TV options available.
