Scottish Screen

From 4docs

Jump to: navigation, search

Scottish Screen has a rolling National Lottery fund for short films. Usually they fund fiction but there is no restriction on this and so documentaries are welcome to apply. A doc may even be a refreshing change to the usual fiction submissions they get. Although, they won't fund complete beginners - you'll need to have at least one previous project. Funding for short films comes under content production.

Eligibility

  • Scottish Screen’s investment should offer applicants the opportunity to produce work that is capable of winning international recognition and significantly raising the profile of the team attached. Projects should be creatively ambitious, have high production values and demonstrate clear progression in the filmmakers’ work. The quality of the writer’s, producer’s and director’s previous work will be assessed rigorously.
  • Producers, writers and directors attached to the project should normally have completed at least one short film, either through a recognised short film initiative, or have produced or directed a film independently which has won critical acclaim either from a Festivals showing or distribution success.
  • Producers must be able to demonstrate their ability to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Recoupment terms – Scottish Screen’s will seek to recoup its investment from gross receipts pro rata pari passu with other equity investors
  • Profit participation – Scottish Screen will share in the financiers’ net profit pro rata pari passu to the level of its investment.
  • Your film will need to constitute a Scottish film in some way. However, read the guidelines as the definitions are fairly broad, such as "insurance fees to be paid to any insurance company used and based in Scotland" or "post production facilities in Scotland".
