Contribute to the Wiki

From 4docs

Jump to: navigation, search

We'd really love you to contribute to this wiki. The more involved you can be the better it will be as a resource. In the same way - please feel free to edit this page, especially if you know wiki functions and possibilities.

If you are a technophobe (like me) or have never edited a wiki before - I promise - it really is easier than you think. Email us if you get stuck - I promise we'll get back to you to help out: contact@4docs.org.uk

Just follow these basic rules:

Contents

Editing the Text

To add or alter an existing page you simple click the 'edit' at the top or the right of the page and type as you would in a word document. When you have finished making your edit you click 'save page' on the bottom left of the page.

Titles

If you want to add a title you put the equals sign around the title. For example a new title for HD Cameras would be typed as =HD Cameras=.

Subtitles

If you want a sub-title then you put two equals signs either side of the sub-title. For example ==SONY==.

More sub-titles

The same pattern applies if you want to further subtitle. For example, ===Z1=== and ===EX1===.

New Pages

If you want to create an entirely new page then your new page heading must be surrounded by two square brackets. For example if you felt the 'Making Them' section should include a page on Music, then you must go to the 'Making Them' contents page, click 'edit' at the top of the page and add Music.

Linking Pages

In the same way, we can use the double square brackets to interconnect the pages in the wiki. For example if Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation is mentioned on a number of difference pages, putting double square brackets around them all within the various texts will ensure they all link back a page on Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation. NB. If these links differ in anyway, for example use of capital letters - then they won't link to the same page.

Linking to a URL

Embedding a URL link is really easy too. The patter is Title of Link for example Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation. In this case, once you press 'save page' Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation will appear as a blue hyper link within the text.

Imbedding a Document or Picture

This is a two stage process.

1. Click on the link called Upload file, which is on the left had tool bar. Upload the image or document you want to use and remember its file name.

2. To upload a full version of the film enter:

or to upload a thumb of the image that can be clicked on to enlarge enter:

If you replace the 'left' for 'right' or 'centre' it will place the file accordingly.
