Competition film
Ghana's Roosting Bird
Made by: Miriam Rowe Jemma Gander
Synopsis
Personal accounts from rice farmers in Ghana. Despite producing plentiful yields, they are unable to feed the nation due to unfair competition from cheap, heavily subsidised US rice.
More Info
It's good to know that... enough food is being grown in the developing world (but sadly, due to unfair trade it's not reaching everybody in the fair way that it should). Although this film was made three years ago, it is still relevant. American and EU farmers are still heavily subsidised and farmers in Ghana are still struggling to compete with 'dumped' produce which is considered higher quality.
