Learn to Pitch Perfect with the Frontline Club

September 23rd, 2009 posted by Helen Jack

ImagePitching can be a killer. Not only do you have to throw your baby (aka, your idea) to the lions, but you also have to stand there and coherently “sell it” to a panel of experts who have seen more pitches than you’ve had hot dinners. So, to ease the pressure a little, Frontline Club, in association with Sheffield Doc/Fest and Shooting People, are running their event Pitch Perfect before the lead up to festival in November.

Frontline Club have organised this event to give doc filmmakers the oppertunity to get pitch perfect in time for the festival. Participants are asked to present their treatment to the panel in order to recieve invaluable feedback before the real deal. The panel will include: Christina burnett (Sheffield Doc/Fest) who has worked closely with commisioning editors and given pitch training for leading companies including Channel 4, as well as consulting for organisations such as PACT, Skillset and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland. Lina Prestwood (Current TV), who is Director of Content at Current TV (Virgin 155/ Sky 183). Lina is also keen to talk about anything from formats to observational ideas as well as on-camera talent or acquisitions. Claire Lewis (Exec Producer) Is an experienced TV and film producer (The End of The Line, 7UP series) and MA course senior lecturer at Royal Holloway (Foundations of Production) who can spot a good idea at twenty paces. And last, but by no means least, Charlotte Cook who is Programme Manager of the Frontline Club. James Mullighan, Shooting People’s Creative Director, will be Chairing the event.

If you wish to come along, please email Frontline Club with a one-page treatment for a factual/documentary project and brief information about yourself. Projects can be at any stage of development, for any platform, and any genre as long it is a factual project.

Pitch Perfect takes place on Saturday October 10, between 10:00 – 17:00. Tickets are £50, or £35 for Shooting People members.  There are 30 places available, 10 of which are specially priced for Sheffield Doc/Fest registered delegates. Please contact Leona on leona.chaliha@frontlineclub.com for further details.
